Bearings Here, The Rest Soon

The bearings arrived today. I test fit them on the busted linear bearing and they look good! The test that was keeping me from working on the RepRap is past, so tonight I am making drawings for many of the parts and tomorrow I will be machining as many parts as I can in the 8 hours I’ll be up at the shop. I may get some time in on Saturday as well. I have my fingers crossed that the dividing head will work so I can make my own gears. That would be fantastic!

Very clever design for the bearing trio. One question – how to keep the bearings ‘clamped’ against the shaft if the screws are a couple thou too far away? In the original Mendel design, this is done by having a lone bearing on one ‘plate’ and the bearing pair on a second ‘plate’ so that they could clamp together and remove all slop. I was thinking you could maybe do it with a split collar type of design, but I’m wondering what you had in mind.
That’s a good point, and I have thought about it – I am using a split collar design for the pre-load. I will be putting a slit down the side of the cylinder midway between two of the bearings, and there will be one or two bolts that will compress the slit together to remove any slop.
