8 Hours Traded For Awesome Brackets

corner_brackets

Today I machined the 6 corner brackets for the RepRap, they were by far the most time consuming pieces (they took 8 hours total to make) they were time consuming because they were made out of scrap, and because of the strange angles it took a lot of setup to be able to machine them accurately (and repeatably).

More pictures after the link.

The ball attached to the pieces is called a  tooling ball. You use it to set a reference point in space that you can measure from regardless of the orientation of the piece – it is probably the easiest way to accurately make these parts (aside from say – cnc). I’ll make some diagrams for anyone interested in the use of a tooling ball.

How wide did you make the brackets? We’re working on replicating your ideas, and you don’t specify on the drawings. We’re thinking about just making it ‘wide enough’, but?

Just measured the brackets – 0.80″ wide

Sorry for my late response. School has made me completely AWOL from my website and blog.
