There really isn't much to say about this one. I saw a holder similar to this at a music shop, naturally it was overpriced so I decided that I would make one for nothing. (I had all the things I needed). Basically Cut a rectangle (about 3" x 4.5") in a piece of wood. I used a piece of hardwood from an old desk I took apart but most anything would work, though I would stay away from balsa.

You will need a Vinyl double screw hook. They can be found at any hardware store or Wal-Mart in the home improvement section. They look like this:

Drill a hole to fit the screw of the hook above the center line of your piece of wood, angled so that it will hold the hook at about 5 degrees above horizontal (so the violin doesn't fall). Then drill three holes to fit small finishing nails, 2 above the hook hole on either side, and one below the hook hole on the center line of the piece of wood. Drill them angled down about 5 degrees to the normal of the wood front surface. I cut a white BIC pen tube to about 3/4" length and put it over the section of thread on the hook that would be exposed (for look and to protect the violin). Test fit the hook to make sure it threads in, and that the pen tube is the right length. Then find the area of your wall where you want to hang your violin, somewhere it won't get knocked off the wall or in direct sunlight, or under a heating vent. Use three finishing nails to hang the wood piece on the wall. I actually put a layer of lacquer on my holder before hanging it to give it a better finish but that is entirely optional.

Put some epoxy on the threads of the hook (to keep it secure) then screw it in. The Gray tube extending off of the right hook is to hold the bow, it was made from a grip from a BIC mechanical pencil. (I had a lot of writing utensils lying around when I made this). It fit tight on the end, but I used a little epoxy to keep it secure then filled it with hot glue to keep it from bending.

That's it, you now have a violin holder made in the time it would take to go to the store and for a tenth of the price.
