For me research is the least enjoyable part of the design process. I just want to start making my part drawings or in this case building the engine. I hate doing it, but I know that it is essential so very grudgingly I do it. Since I knew next to nothing about 2 stroke engines I started by reasarching how they worked. Then I looked at other similarly sized 2 stroke engine designs to see how different parts looked. I found sites where people made engines from scratch to see the way they did it. I looked into tool sizes and metal properties. I made sure that I could theoretially actually make an engine with my skills and have it run. I did a lot of reading and considering how much I didn't enjoy it, I'm sure you the reader wouldn't like it very much either so I will end this step right here.
